There was nothing special about it, but it was special to me.

I traded it in 2 moths ago after more than 7 years together. I even washed it one last time and took it for one last night out after I had already traded it in. I have no reason to miss it as it was a rental spec 2007 Jeep Patriot, but I loved that car more than anything and still do. My new Mazda 6 is amazing and trumps the Patriot in every way, yet I still long to go for a drive in the Patriot. I tried googling the vin and came up with nothing. If it were to show up online for sale, there’s a decent chance I would buy it back. How have y’all gotten over parting with your first ride? Here is a small photo dump of it.

We all miss our first cars, they gave us a new sense of freedom. In my case it was a shitty hand-me down 2003 Honda Odyssey. It had to many issues to list, but I still go on Autotrader and look at them.

It didn’t take very long to get over my first car. The only thing it had going for it was that it had 40k miles when I got it.

I don’t miss mine. It only had 69HP, and there’s a reason you don’t see them on the road today. I was grateful to have a car period, but that didn’t keep me from flipping thru autotrader magazines dreaming of something to replace it.

I think for many of us, being car guys, our first car holds a special place automatically. But your first ride, especially if you’ve owned it for a while rides through a number of life events with you. Whether you bought it right out of college or picked up something cheap in high school, that’s a pile of memories.

I’ll still talk about my Protege5 like it was a special edition Ferrari if I’m in the right mood. lol

The first cars I ever drove... well... I liked one disliked the other.

One was a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, which was fantastic. It had enough (200) horsepower to have fun with, was incredibly cheap to maintain, and refused to die until 230k miles.

Loljk, it was actually bought by the shop we towed it to, who rebuilt the trans and gave it to the shop owner’s daughter, because it was still the most rust free W-Body ever seen in Michigan, and the engine still had great compression and ran perfectly.

The other was a final gen Oldsmobile Silhouette. While it provided excellent transport for a young highschooler’s shenanigans with dumb little buddies (and girls), mechanically it was a pile. 4th gear stopped working at 140k miles, the heated seats were broken, it was a 3400 so obviously the LIM failed, it rusted almost as bad as the 05 Town and Country I have, and the air compressor for the rear suspension broke twice.

And for some reason the damn thing smelled like weed, cigarettes, booze, and pussy all the time, no idea why.

For the fun it provided, I thank the Oldsmobile, but the sins of the mechanical trouble it gave were too much to bear.

So do I, and I only got out of it half an hour ago.

Funny, we had a 2002 Montana. I couldn’t say I loved it, but we replaced it with a Sienna and I want it back.

Even though it was slow, dripped oil, and had developed a tendency to overheat.

You could rug it everywhere, handling was wallowy but very predictable (can you say four-wheel-momentum-drift-minivan?), it was actually more comfortable to sit in (though the seat handles were tempermental) and it blew the Sienna out of the water in terms of mpg.

It was a pretty comfortable vehicle, but the 3400 engine was a bit weak and didn’t like it’s lower intake manifold gaskets. That being said, you’re right about the gas mileage. Mine still averaged 22 MPG in overall driving even after it decided fourth gear was too easy and stopped using it.

You’re right, the 3400 had gasket issues and was a little underpowered. Our overheating problem was probably relate to a gasket failure somewhere. Of course they came with the 3800 as well, so...

Is that US mpg? I was talking Imperial. Sounds like we’re in the same ballpark.
